The Norths
By Andrey Bronnikov
October 4 – October 24, 2014
Metallurg Community Center, Kandalaksha, Murmansk Oblast, Russia
October 31 – December 14, 2014
Gostiny Dvor, Arkhangelsk, Russia
THE NORTHS are plentiful in Russia. Kola, Arkhangelsk, Yamal, Taymyr, Kolyma, Kamchatka, Chukotka… Similar under the film of snow, each of them unfolds in its unique colors, forms and patterns. Each of them has its own Breath of the North, its history, its conquerors and martyrs. Existing through millennia, the Norths are only nominally rendered habitable; they are barely explored but mystically inviting.
Andrey Bronnikov specializes in large-scale photography of exceptional quality. The exhibition will feature his works up to 2x1.5m, which provides an opportunity to truly experience the beauty of Siberia and the Russian North.
Andrey Bronnikov takes his photos with a large-scale camera on a 10x13cm flat slide film and achieves exceptionally high quality of color and detail, blurring the boundaries between reality and photography. Accurate composition building and fair knowledge of geology allow him to get to the heart of landscape photography, one of the most demanding photography genres.
Andrey Bronnikov was born in Krasnoyarsk. He spent his childhood in Kolyma. Graduated the department of geology of LMSU in 1995. During the period from 1994 to 2001 he organized and held plenty of geological expeditions in the White Sea area. He became seriously involved in photography in 1995. Main genres: scientific and landscape photography. Worked with museum collections in Russia, Germany, France, England, Italy, South Africa, Australia and other countries.
He has become one of the leading glamor and advertising photographers since 2001, and did thousands of photo shootings as a commercial photographer. He is well known to wide audience due to his work for Channel One and various Russian cinema projects. He is the author of international advertising campaigns and an acknowledged expert in product and jewelry photography.
