POLAR EXPEDITION
KARTESH
About 2014 Expedition
November 2014 witnessed Polar Expedition Gallery, a cultural and educational project, embark on the expedition on the research vessel Kartesh. Nine professional photographers dared to range the Barents Sea coast in the tough conditions of extreme weather and severe climate, and undertook photo shoots of the stunning Arctic beauty of the Russian North.
Despite storms and extremely short daylight hours, brave expedition participants practiced landing with heavy photo equipment as well as piloted extreme weather conditions shooting methods.
For eleven days, November 11 to November 21, 2014, photographers have taken pictures of the unique and scenic Arctic nature: icebound Teriberka waterfall, the south coast of Kildin Island, snow-covered Kola Peninsula, seascapes and rocky beaches. The photographers utilize large-format black-and-white and transparent film. Several works participated in a range of specialized exhibitions, which was the first result of the expedition.
Furthermore, the Murman Coast 2014 expedition participants observed and analyzed the degree of human impact upon the coastline.
